A. There are really few chances to wear wellies during a holiday.
The Venice Lagoon tide rises and decreases two times everyday. Sometimes many factors overlap and the tide overgrows some of the streets: this is called Acqua Alta. The water level is measured in centimetres: when it’s over 80 cm most of Saint Mark Square is flooded, this happens about 20 days in one year, usually during fall Season. But all the main streets are practicable, thanks to board walkways, until the water rises over 120 cm, and that’s very unusual.
