Gazing onto the historic red brick ramparts of the Venice Arsenale ‘Corderie’ (the ancient rope works) and fronting the boat-fringed ‘Rio De La Tana’ canal - a spacious and newly introduced 3 bedroom/3 bathroom apartment at the end of a ‘calle’ just off Via Garibaldi within the true ‘Venetian’s Venice’ in the Castello district.

A gentle walk along the gloriously panoramic Riva Degli Schiavoni waterfront passing the Museo Storico Navale, Vivaldi’s Church of the Pieta and the famed Danieli Hotel towards the flamboyance and spectacle of Piazza San Marco, the Campanile, the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs (with Salute in the distance across the water) and yet charmingly tucked away in an area cloaked in authenticity where daily life continues just as ‘Nonno’ can remember and where all one’s daily needs are just moments from one’s doorstep, Ca’ Dei Pescatori (or ‘House of the Fishermen’ to give it it’s Venetian name) sleeps six and is on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the building.

Roomy and loft-like in layout, the apartment has terrific visual and architectural appeal and comprises a contemporary style open-plan living area in which the canal view sitting/dining space and kitchen reached by internal staircase provide a welcoming haven throughout your stay.

Rich wooden flooring complements both the impressive hewn roof timbers and the warm sheen of the modern and well-equipped kitchen, while the light colour scheme offset by feature walls in slate green and flaxen yellow lend an air of quiet sophistication to the space and its décor.

There are 3 double bedrooms also on this level, each decorated in an elegant and up-to-date fashion and featuring attractive built-in Japanese-style sliding screens to make the most of the ambient light – two have double beds (one of which can be made into twins – simply ask when booking) and their own en-suite bathrooms (both with shower) and a third facing the canal has its own dressing room and separate bathroom with bathtub. A further staircase from the main room leads up to a mezzanine level with a washing machine - particularly handy for longer stays or when visiting Venice as part of an extended travel itinerary.

OUR COMMENT

A splendid apartment with modern styling offering guests the very best of both worlds – close to the sights for an action-packed stay yet far enough away from the hubbub to blend in with the locals and unwind to the gentle rhythms of daily Venetian life (complete with washing hung ‘calles’ and yacht spotting on the Schiavoni waterfront!).

Moments to the Riva Dei Sette Martiri, the ‘Giardini Napoleonici’ public gardens and the Biennale Pavilions and seconds to the shops, cafes and restaurants along the popular Via Garibaldi. Very close to the vaporetto stops at Arsenale and Giardini for easy travel around the city and a short hop across the water by vaporetto to the Liberty-style villas and relaxing sandy beaches of the Lido. A short walk to the Church and little island of San Pietro di Castello (the cathedral of Venice between 1451 and 1807).
