Drift back through the passages of time amidst this entirely bewitching tangle of antique-laden rooms, which together form the 'piano nobile' of a large and imposing 17th Century palazzo, sandwiched between (and overlooking) the Rio de San Maurizio and the Rio de Santa Maria Zobenigo (also known as 'Del Giglio') canals. Close to the wide open space of Campo Santo Stefano, the Teatro La Fenice and a short walk, via the designer outlets of Calle Larga XXII Marzo, to the attractions of St.Mark's Square.
Intriguingly labyrinthine in layout and with a great sense of history, Ca' Barbarigo is on the second floor of the palazzo and sleeps up to eight guests in delightfully 'old-world' Venetian splendour. The palazzo itself is entered by way of a canal side door leading to a stone staircase, which in turn rises to the apartment entrance. Once inside, guests enter an enchantingly atmospheric silk lined vestibule-hallway hinting at the further delights to come.
Warm, comfortable and very characterful throughout, the first main room of the apartment is a large and formal living room with high ceilings, antiques (including a magnificently grandiose flower-encrusted Murano glass chandelier) and an internal wooden staircase leading to a comfortable double bedroom with double bed (which can be made into twins - simply ask when booking).
Off the living room is the main 'salon' living room - a magical space with comfortable seating and tall windows overlooking a different canal at each end and featuring high ceilings with colourful frescos, Venetian 'terrazzo' flooring scattered with oriental rugs, twinkling Murano chandeliers and time-worn speckled mirrors.
A doorway from one end of the salon leads in turn to a library with an internal wooden staircase rising to a delightfully cosy sleeping gallery with double bed, open to the room below (wonderful for snuggling up with your novel of choice!) and a bathroom with shower.
A further doorway from the opposite end of the main salon leads to the spacious master bedroom - elegantly furnished with antiques, including a stately and rather regal double bed with 'putti' embellished canopy and featuring an en suite bathroom with bathtub. Close to this bathroom is a further staircase leading to a fourth double bedroom which is cosy and compact.
The kitchen on the ground floor, simple yet practical, is equipped with everything necessary.
Daily maid service is available upon request with an extra surcharge.
Rental price includes GAS, ELECTRICITY, LINEN and FINAL CLEANING
OUR COMMENT
A perfect place for a group of friends wishing to experience the old-world charms of a solidly traditional Venetian apartment. Rambling and fascinating in layout like the city itself ...and just as seductive.
