An uber-chic urban retreat offering plentiful space and an amazing south-facing terrace, positioned directly on the Zattere promenade and offering uninterrupted views across the boat-filled waters of the Giudecca Canal. Within a short stroll of the Church of Santa Maria Della Salute, Francois Pinault's Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
Recently restored using the highest quality materials into a masterpiece of cool sophistication, Ca' Delle Vele ('House of the Sails') is a loft-style apartment featuring highly contemporary design in neutral linen tones, anthracite greys, polished woods and shades of seasoned leather.
Sleeping six, air-conditioned and covering two floors, the apartment has a beautifully bright ground floor open-plan living/dining room (measuring a whopping 50 square metres approx.), dominated by two enormous picture windows with the most stunning canal views over towards Palladio's Church of the Redentore on the island of Giudecca. This main room is furnished with super-comfortable, oversized sofas set against warm wooden flooring, attractively weathered beams and whitewashed walls which emphasise the ambient light and on which sophisticated paint techniques have been employed to recreate the ever-changing watery horizons right outside your windows.
Also found on this floor is a well-planned and fully equipped kitchen, , a cloakroom with w.c. and wash basin (off which is a handy laundry with a washing machine and a separate tumble dryer) and an elegant double bedroom plus an en suite bathroom with shower and contemporary fittings.
A spiral staircase from the main room leads up to a wooden beamed 'library' (with a 'secret' swivelling door!) on the landing of the first floor - a super little haven affording further privacy, if so required, to those staying in the two further double bedrooms also found on this level (each with two single beds and an en-suite bathroom - - one with a bath and separate shower and the other with shower). And from here, access the 'jewel in the crown' of the apartment - a fabulous terrace with retractable awning for sunny days and the perfect spot for budding (or established!) artists wishing to capture the ever-changing panorama as a momento of their stay.
OUR COMMENT
An excellent choice for the design-conscious, offering plenty of space and splendid views from both the inside and out, in one of the most revered parts of the city. Close to the Accademia Bridge/Academy of Fine Arts, the accomplished cooking and romantic over-water terrace of restaurant 'Lineadombra', plus the 'Traghetto' at Calle Lanza which, during operating times, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal over to the district of San Marco.
A super action-filled spot to stay during Venice's annual 'Festa Della Redentore' (third weekend in July), when a temporary pontoon bridge is set up a short distance from the apartment directly over to the Church of the Redentore on the island of Giudecca.
