Step into a Venetian fairytale, where you can become the players in one of the most dazzling properties on the rental market in Venice today. Fulfil your Venetian fantasies amongst the frescos of this ravishing first and second floor 'piano nobile' apartment, situated within a very special 16th Century palazzo (designed by the famous architect Jacopo Sansovino - a follower of Michaelangelo), where a heady mix of luxury, history and atmosphere will mean that every lingering moment spent will build memories to last a lifetime.

Originally built around 1550 for a wealthy family of Greek merchants, the apartment is named 'Ca' Salvioni' after the family to whom it passed in the 17th Century and is located on the Canale della Pieta, steps to Vivaldi's Church of 'La Pieta' on the Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront, the Church of San Giorgio dei Greci and the Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni with its colourful Carpaccio paintings.

Its enormously elegant accommodation for six guests exudes a palpable spirit of 'Old Venice' while at the same time incorporating all modern comforts, such as air-conditioning in the bedrooms, a washing machine and internet connection. It comprises a large 'salon' - a comfortable sitting and formal dining area with six metre high ceilings, featuring a balcony overlooking the canal at the sitting room end and another overlooking the Palazzo gardens at the otherbeautiful frescos by the 17th-18th Century Italian artist Paolo Pagani, oil paintings, flamboyant stucco work and Murano glass chandeliers, which are as magnificently ostentatious and glittering as they are ancient.

There's a spacious and well equipped kitchen/informal dining area featuring modern appliances (including an American coffee maker) and a beautiful library where guests can enjoy satellite TV, a DVD player, a music system, internet connection and a large selection of rare books and international literature in between time spent gazing at the striking view of Palladio's Church and Campanile of San Giorgio Maggiore lying across the waters of the 'Bacino' and directly visible from the room's full length glazed door and Juliet balcony.

Each of the three double bedrooms is furnished with antiques, while the beds have comfortable mattresses and luxurious linens. The impressive master bedroom overlooking the canal is exceptionally well-proportioned (a feature made even more impressive by its high and exquisitely decorated ceiling with chandelier) and has an en suite bathroom with bathtub. The two further double bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with twin beds, both with heavily beamed ceilings) are a welcoming combination of comfort and character and have their own bathrooms plus there's an extra single bedroom for added flexibility.

Start your stay in the style to which you'll soon become accustomed by arriving directly at the Palazzo's private water entrance by water taxi and, once settled, take time out to bask under the glossy greenery of the ancient magnolia tree within the peaceful serenity of the Palazzo's private garden - a rare and welcome privilege amidst the scenic waterways and hallowed 'stones' of Venice lying just beyond the Palazzo walls.

Maid service (2 hours a day, 6 days a week) is also included.

On request - Transfer services, private guided tours, cook for evening meals, cooking lessons and laundry services.

Rental price includes GAS, ELECTRICITY, LINEN and FINAL CLEANING

OUR COMMENT

A fabulously elegant 'piano nobile' apartment - totally charming, full of atmosphere and offering guests a very unique insight into the art of Palazzo living. And, while on the subject of 'art', a short walk through the tranquil calles of Castello to the Venice Biennale Pavillions at Arsenale and Giardini and, in the opposite direction, to the effervescence and attractions at the heart of the city, St. Mark's Square.

Close to a number of highly regarded restaurants including 'Corte Sconta', 'al Covo' and 'Oliva Nera' and a short stroll to the local neighbourhood shops along Salizada Sant' Antonin and the Punto supermarket on Calle San Lorenzo.
