An attractive and roomy top floor loft-style ‘mansard’ apartment with beamed ceilings and altana terrace in upmarket San Samuele, an area known for its galleries and antique shops. Just off Campo Santo Stefano, steps to Palazzo Grassi museum of contemporary art and next door to ‘Casa Veronese’, once home of the outstanding 16th Century Italian Renaissance painter Paolo Veronese (creator of ‘Wedding at Cana’ and ‘Feast in the House of Levi’ which today hangs in the Accademia Academy of Fine Arts just across the nearby Accademia Bridge).

The entrance and small staircase within the apartment leads directly up to a bright and spacious living room featuring several windows looking directly over the very pleasant Salizada San Samuele. A small but very welcome ‘altana’ roof terrace with table and chairs lies just off this main room - ideal for taking breakfast in the mornings or for unwinding in the sunshine after a busy (or not so busy!) day. The kitchenette is fully equipped and the characterful double bedroom to the rear of the apartment features a heavily beamed – and fairly low - ceiling (please bear in mind that, as a result, the double bed is also positioned quite low to the ground). The bathroom has a bathtub and the whole apartment offers ample storage along with plenty of room to ‘stretch your legs’.

Settling into the Venetian way of life couldn’t be easier or more convenient what with a variety of osterie, outdoor cafes, a grocery/delicatessen and wine shop all close at hand. And when you’re ready to venture forth and explore or re-visit the countless charms and very unique beauty of the city, you’ll find two vaporetto stops just minutes away along with the ‘Traghetto’ which, during operating times, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to San Toma in the district of San Polo.

Wi-fi internet connection.

OUR COMMENT

A very comfortable pad in a wonderful location and perfect for a visit at any time of the year – cosy and characterful in winter yet cool and airy in summer when it scores extra points for its precious altana terrace. Directly opposite the gallery of world famous Venetian wood sculptor Livio De Marchi, well known for ‘driving’ through the canals of Venice in his carved wooden ‘cars’ and, for scent-lovers, steps from Venice outlet of the famous Florentine ‘Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’ – one of the oldest pharmacies in the world and one time fragrance maker to Catherine de’ Medici.
