Overlooking the 'Rio de San Barnaba' Canal and just off Campo San Barnaba (where fruit and vegetables are sold from one of the most-photographed boats in Venice and Katharine Hepburn 'made a splash' in David Lean's classic 1950's film 'Summertime') - a splendid terrace apartment, offering a highly sought-after combination of beautifully presented accommodation and a stunning canal side terrace with dreamy views, all set against the picturesque architecture of the Dorsoduro district.
Extra-special in ambience and deservedly featuring in Janelle McCulloch's 2007 design and interiors hardback book 'View From The Top: Grand Apartment Living', Ca' Barnaba Terrace sleeps up to six guests in flexible accommodation with internet connection and air-conditioning.
Decorated and furnished from top-to-toe in quietly sophisticated natural tones and refined fabrics, the apartment comprises a modern and well-proportioned kitchen - fully equipped with a comprehensive range of appliances including a large fridge, ice-maker and microwave etc., a spacious main living room with relaxing sofas and a dining area giving access, via an intricately leaded French door, onto the long, wide and south-facing furnished terrace. With its trailing greenery and captivating views onto the gentle buzz of the canal below and the apartment's ancient surroundings, it's a memorable spot for breakfasting beneath the rising sun or dining under the stars.
There is a further living room - bright, airy and featuring a small library and an upright piano for those with a fondness for 'tinkling the ivories' during impromptu 'soirees' at home which can also be used as a bedroom thanks to its comfortable double sofa bed and sliding door separating it from the main living/dining area, while two double bedrooms (one of which can be made into a twin – simply ask when booking) and two bathrooms with bathtubs (one of which is ensuite to one of the bedrooms) complete the accommodation. Within minutes of the Ca' Rezzonico vaporetto stop and the San Samuele Traghetto which, during operating times (please check), ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art and the district of San Marco.
Moments to the Ca' Rezzonico Museum of 18th Century Art, the shops, cafes and action of Campo Santa Margherita and the welcoming neighbourhood restaurants of Calle Lunga San Barnaba and merely steps away from one of Venice's hidden musical hotspots - the cosy and well-reviewed Venice Jazz Club, discreetly located just along the 'fondamenta'.
