Plenty of space with a
great terrace too! - A freshly appointed two bedroom apartment in a fantastic spot overlooking a
typically Venetian 'calle' of little boutiques, on the important central artery linking
San Polo and
Dorsoduro.
Sleeping four and named after the commedies of celebrated 18th Century Venetian playwright
Carlo Goldoni * (whose richly Gothic house and museum opposite is open to visitors), Ca' Della Commedia is on the first and second floors and accessed via the charismatically named
'Calle Amor dei Amici' or 'Alley of the Love of Friends' (fans of
Corto Maltese take note!)
It has tall ceilings in the main reception rooms and master bedroom plus excellent proportions and up-to-date furnishings throughout. There's a large main sitting room with wooden floors, an ample corner sofa offering lounging for four, a dining table/chairs and glazed double doors leading onto the large furnished terrace with views over 'Calle dei Nomboli' and sideways glimpses to the Church of San Polo.
The room has a wonderful glass chandelier suspended from its beamed wooden ceiling and a large wall-mounted TV, while the well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room is light, practical and clutter-free with plenty of work space. Separating the kitchen from the hallway is a curved glass brick wall with a rather 20's 'Deco' feel allowing light to infuse the room, while its flooring is cool, smooth Venetian Terrazzo - great on the feet after a busy day of sight-seeing.
Leading from the hallway is a master bedroom enjoying a bright and cheery aspect with a double bed, a decorated wooden ceiling, wooden floors plus a modern central lighting feature and a tall window onto the terrace. To its side is a large walk-in closet which can be closed off by sliding double doors and, further on, the apartment's bathroom which has shower and Jacuzzi bathtub for a touch of luxury.
A glass-sided staircase (with washing machine concealed in a small utility space beneath) leads upstairs to the cosy bedroom with comfy twin beds, nicely matched furnishings and a relaxing room-at-the-top ambience. All rooms within the apartment have in-built air-conditioning (with the exception of the twin which has a portable unit for warmer weather), while internet connection proves useful for planning your daily activities and for keeping in touch.
The comforts of home in a central position - the only decision being what to see first...!
Steps to a twinkling profusion of huddled and characterful shops offering everything from fine gloves and handbags in the softest rainbow-coloured leathers to delicately embroidered lampshades,
masks and masterfully crafted miniature glass flora and fauna to jewellery and fashions.
And for dining and self-catering, a short amble to a well-stocked
Billa supermarket (open 7 days a week) and to a great selection of restaurants, cafes and bars, including
'da Ignazio' and its internal garden, '
Birraria La Corte', '
La Patatina' and '
Muro' at the Frari.
A stone's throw to the vaporetto and '
Traghetto' gondola ferry at San Toma on the Grand Canal - ideal for trips over to Sant' Angelo and the 'must-see' attractions of
San Marco and beyond.
* Note on your travels, the jovial statue of Carlo Goldoni at Campo San Bartolomeo in the San Marco district (near the foot of the Rialto Bridge).
