Art Deco style in prestigious surroundings. A charming and elegant first floor apartment with original 30’s signature pieces and a gorgeous palazzo garden, peacefully tucked away within the rarefied atmosphere of the beautiful 15th Century Palazzo Falier on the Grand Canal - a palace of major historical significance originally built by the ancient Falier family (which counted three Doges of Venice amongst its members) and the one-time home of American author William Dean Howells (‘Venetian Life’ in 1867), the American consul in Venice from 1861-1865.
Steps away from Campo Santo Stefano, a minute to the Accademia Bridge leading to the Accademia Academy of Fine Arts, approx. 200 metres to Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art plus the vaporetto stop and ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry at San Samuele in the San Marco district of the city, Ca’ Delle Rose 2 sleeps four in fully air-conditioned and highly individual accommodation on the first floor to the rear of the Palazzo.
Entered by way of an attractive external stone staircase rising from the Palazzo’s delightfully verdant and well-maintained ‘secret’ walled garden which guests of Ca’ Delle Rose 2 are most welcome to use*, the apartment features completely renovated and thoughtfully laid out accommodation particularly well-suited to couples.
The main open plan sitting/dining room/kitchenette at the centre of the apartment has a dual aspect, three large nicely dressed windows with balustrades and pretty vistas over the leafy garden and the graceful boughs of its mature acacia tree, while furnishings include distinctive deco seating (including a ‘30’s leather club style sofa) and an ingeniously integrated wooden console featuring everything necessary for light cooking and which cleverly closes to conceal its true identity when not in use.
The two elegantly presented double bedrooms enjoy views over the sleepy rhythms of the Rio Del Duca canal and are at opposite ends of the apartment thus ensuring peace, privacy and undisturbed slumber - one with a double bed and an en suite bathroom with a large shower, the second with two single beds and an en suite bathroom with curved wooden vanity unit and bathtub, and both decorated with a series of b&w ‘Alinari’ photo prints of Venice ‘as it was’, while a splendid collection of authentic 30’s Venini Murano glass lamps cast a soft luminosity over the apartment’s cool and calm ‘Gatsby-esque’ style period charm.
OUR COMMENT
Pretty views, comfort and a beautiful garden all wrapped up in a characterful context - newly available and marvellously positioned within a genteel and exclusive area of antique shops, designers, galleries, restaurants and cafes and where a grocery/delicatessen, wine shop, newsstand and pharmacy are all close at hand to meet everyday needs.
*Please note that the paved and furnished gated courtyard lying directly to the side of Ca’ Delle Rose 2’s external stone staircase is for the sole use of guests of Views on Venice’s highly popular sister apartment Ca’ Delle Rose (also sleeping 4) on the ground floor below, while the remainder of the garden and its outdoor seating is for the sole use of guests of Ca’ Delle Rose 2.
(Arrival and departure by private water taxi, should you wish to take one, at the start and end of your stay is via the Palazzo’s private water entrance on the Grand Canal – please contact us for further details.)
