On the picturesque canalside known as ‘Fondamenta Soranzo’, where gondola oars and ‘forcolas’ are still crafted by hand, and close to the one-time home of well known American poet Ezra Pound, sits Ca’ Della Fornace - a cosy and very comfortable two bedroom apartment on the third floor with views onto the romantic ‘Rio Delle Fornace’ canal and a part of the awe-inspiring ‘cupola’ of the Church of Santa Maria Della Salute, one of the most cherished icons of the city.
Bright, peaceful and very charmingly decorated with a distinct aura of class and sophistication plus a mere stone’s throw from the artistic delights of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art, Ca’ Della Fornace comprises an elegant living/dining area (featuring amidst its nicely-matched furnishings a portrait of Ezra Pound and another of Peggy herself), a fully fitted kitchen/breakfast area, two double bedrooms, a small room with a single sofa/bed (more suitable for a child) and a bathroom with shower.
Two portable air conditioning units allow for comfortable relaxation during the warmer months - one in the living room and the other in the master bedroom, while the ability to keep in touch and plan your days' activities via the apartment's wireless internet connection proves a real plus.
Well-designed and perfectly placed for exploring Dorsoduro, the apartment is also just around the corner from the ‘Traghetto’ at Calle Lanza which, during operating hours, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to ‘Campo Del Traghetto’ (next to the Gritti Palace Hotel) allowing you to discover the many sights and sounds of the district of San Marco and beyond.
OUR COMMENT
A beautiful apartment in a prime location – very close to the Zattere for a memorable after dinner stroll at sunset and ideal for indulging in a spot of Venetian day-dreaming while sitting on the steps of the nearby Salute and gazing across the ‘bacino’ to the splendours of St.Mark’s.
