Modest and simple, a comfortable and homely apartment for four which raises its game considerably due to its excellent location and value for money. Close to a number of well-reviewed restaurants and to the picturesque Campo San Giacomo Dell' Orio - hot contender for the title of 'most family-orientated square in Venice' and a short, pleasant walk to the Rialto market area, the vast palazzo-lined Campo San Polo (the largest in Venice), the 14th Century Franciscan Gothic Church of the Frari (home to Canova's extraordinary triangular marble tomb and Titian's legendary masterpiece, the 'Assumption') and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with its amazing Tintorettos.
Nicely furnished in an unfussy and quiet fashion, Ca' Delle Oche (or 'House of the Geese' - named after the little alleyway in which it sits) is on the first floor with charming views over the 'Rio di San Boldo' canal and the Campo San Boldo with its quaint slanting bridge, 'vera da pozzo' stone well-head and 14th century campanile - the only part of its age-old church to survive. In terms of layout, the apartment comprises a comfortable living room with traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring, a fully-equipped kitchen/dining room, two simple bedrooms also with terrazzo flooring - a master with a double bed and a second with twin beds and a bathroom with shower. The apartment also has a washing machine for extra convenience.
Recommended for medium or long stays and for families with children, Ca' Delle Oche is within very easy reach of several notable places to eat, a number of which are firm 'foodie' favourites. Such restaurants include the canalside ''Osteria La Zucca' and 'Il Refolo', the exclusive 'Da Fiore', 'La Prosecco', 'Antica Besseta' and the very convenient eat-in or takeaway pizzeria, 'Ae Oche' - each of them close to or within Campo San Giacomo Dell' Orio, where you'll also find a well-stocked COOP supermarket, bars, gelati, an ATM and even a little health food shop, all thriving in a very convivial and community-spirited atmosphere, where generations of local families meet under the mature plane trees and in the shadow of its 13th Century church to catch up on the latest news and to pass the time of day.
Rental price includes GAS, ELECTRICITY, LINEN and FINAL CLEANING
OUR COMMENT
A comfortable and relaxing 'no-frills' apartment at a good rate and in an even better location, very much appreciated by those who know Venice well. Minutes to the vaporetto stop at San Stae on the Grand Canal and within easy walking distance of Venice's Stazione Santa Lucia/Ferrovia if travelling light, Ca' Delle Oche is also conveniently placed for visits to the highly enjoyable Ca' Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art (don't miss Sorolla y Bastida's sun-dappled 'Mending the Sail', Klimt's 'Judith II (Salome)' and a cast of Rodin's renowned sculpture 'The Thinker'), the Palazzo Mocenigo (Costume Museum) at San Stae and the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista (for links to their websites, please see our 'About Venice' section).
