A light and airy apartment in a peaceful part of Cannaregio, close to Campo Santi Apostoli and not far from the Rialto Bridge, the jewel-box church of Santa Maria Dei Miracoli and the Fondamente Nove for catching the vaporetto to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello.
Comfortably furnished in modern style, the apartment features a living room with dining area, a fully fitted kitchen, a bedroom with a double bed, a bedroom with twins (which can be made into a double – simply ask when booking) and a bathroom with jacuzzi and shower.
Both bedrooms overlook private gardens while the simple lines, clear perspex furnishings and Venetian ‘terrazzo’ flooring give the apartment a trendy, up-to-the-minute feel. Two portable air conditioning units allow for comfort during the warmer months - one in the living room and the other in the master bedroom.
Well placed for self-catering with Billa Supermarket and numerous shops closeby and for exploring the fascinating areas of Cannaregio well off the beaten track. A short stroll to the beautiful and dainty Church of Santa Maria Dei Miracoli (where Rosalba/Vera works at the florists shop in the much loved film ‘Bread and Tulips’) or up to Venice’s northern waterfront ‘Fondamente Nove’ where it’s nice to have a drink or a meal on the over-water terrace of ‘Algiubagio’ before (or after) taking the vaporetto next door for a visit to the islands.
OUR COMMENT
Ca’ Giorgione is also ideally located for making that crack of dawn (or slightly later!) visit to the world-famous Rialto fish, fruit and vegetable markets (Tues-Sat a.m. only), where you can vie with the Venice’s top chefs for the amazing seafood on offer. Simply board the Traghetto Gondola Ferry on the Grand Canal at Santa Sofia (close to the apartment) for a quick trip directly across the water to the fish market. On your return, pop into the very traditional and atmospheric osteria ‘Alla Vedova’ (otherwise known as ‘Osteria Ca’ D’Oro’) for some of their delicious ‘polpette’ (fried meatballs rather like rissoles) and an ‘ombra’ or two (a glass of white or red wine drunk at the bar) while contemplating the morning’s activities.
