Bathed in light and spacious for four, a super south-facing apartment located directly on the broad and scenic Zattere promenade in Dorsoduro, offering astonishing canal and boating views towards the island of Giudecca and with a large and relaxing terrace to the rear.

 

On the second floor with lift, the comfortable and air conditioned Ca' Zattere has a large and very bright living room which opens onto the terrace to the rear and which has the feel of a (pristine!) artist's studio due its abundant light, ample space, high beamed ceiling and glorious views over the Zattere and the Giudecca Canal to the front. This room also features traditional Venetian 'terrazzo' flooring and a number of large and very stylish rattan sofas, perfect for lounging and for taking life easy after a busy day on your feet.

 

The kitchen with dining area (overlooking the Zattere and Giudecca Canal)  is simple yet fully equipped and there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms - a bright, elegant and spacious double (again overlooking the Zattere and Giudecca Canal) with a nicely fitted en suite bathroom with wooden flooring, bathtub and shower and a second bedroom with twin beds (which can be prepared as double - please ask when booking) with a private bathroom with bathtub. The apartment has a further small room with wash hand basin only, plus a washing machine and internet connection to make your holiday stay that much more convenient.

 

Ca' Zattere is a great option if arriving or departing Venice by the cruise ship port of the 'Stazione Marittima'  (just a short distance away), while its postion near the vaporetto stop of San Basilio allows for easy trips around the city, including visits to the Lido with its beaches (and cars!), the island of Giudecca and the tiny and very peaceful island of San Giorgio Maggiore with its magnificent Palladian church and campanile overlooking the water towards St.Mark's, the rooftops of Venice and the southern lagoon.

OUR COMMENT

A fine apartment, full of light and with some great plusses in terms of comfort and practicality. In a well-loved and very traditionally 'Venetian' location with a number of top Venice sights closeby, including the church of San Sebastiano (the final resting place of 16th century Italian Renaissance painter, Paolo Veronese), the extremely beautiful and peaceful interior of one of the oldest churches in Venice, San Nicolò Dei Mendicoli - restored between 1972-80 by the 'Venice in Peril' Fund and the church being renovated by Donald Sutherland's character in the classic Nicolas Roeg film 'Don't Look Now' .

Fine restaurants abound in the area and range from the designer style 'Avogaria' with its Puglian influenced cuisine, the fine dining of 'Ristorante Riviera' just steps away from the apartment and two branches of 'Pane, vino e San Daniele' - one near the Church of Angelo Raffaele (with its 18th century Guardi 'Scenes from the life of Tobias' and the setting for the highly popular novel 'Miss Garnet's Angel' by Salley Vickers) and the other sharing the calle with a good number of other fine restaurants, just a short walk away along Calle Lunga San Barnaba.

A take-away or eat-in pizza selected from the vast list of options available at 'Ae Oche' on the Zattere offers a simple and tasty lunch or dinner solution, while the extremely close proximity of local supermarket 'Billa' means that popping out for that last minute forgotten ingredient or a bottle of wine to enjoy on the terrace just couldn't be easier!
