Description
A cheerful, comfy and newly restored one bedroom apartment in the solidly authentic and unspoilt neighbourhood of Santa Giustina, peacefully located between the Fondamente Nove waterfront and the Arsenale district of Castello.
On the third floor with lift and overlooking a very bright internal courtyard and neighbouring rooftops, Ca' San Lorenzo invites you into the privileged ranks of the true Venetian resident for the duration of your holiday, well away from the tourist throngs and souvenir stalls (yet still within walking distance of St. Mark's) and set within an area offering some of Venice's most memorable sensory delights.
Crisp and freshly appointed, the apartment has traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring throughout (a treat for the feet after a busy day exploring the calles) and a beamed main living room incorporating a comfortable sitting area, dining space and a well-fitted modern kitchen. The bedroom, also with beams, is nicely decorated, enjoys plenty of natural light and has a double bed. The modern bathroom is well-sized and has a large shower while the apartment's air-conditioning*, washing machine ensures you enjoy all the comforts of a home-away-from-home.
Quietly positioned in a tranquil, sleepy area shared with a barely discernable trickle of inquisitive and well-informed visitors seeking out the 'genuine' everyday Venice of gently flapping washing lines, sun-dappled courtyards and characterful neighbourhoods, Ca' San Lorenzo is within a stone's throw of the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (known as 'Zanipolo' in dialect - one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges) and on the 'right' side of town for visiting the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini.
Perhaps take time to absorb the Carpaccio paintings at the richly atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni nearby ('St Jerome and the Lion' is a particular favourite!) or take in the cavernous and newly restored Church of San Lorenzo (long closed but now home to Ocean Space - a collaborative platform focusing on ocean conservation and situated directly opposite the 'Questura' office of Donna Leon's fictional Commissario Guido Brunetti). Within easy reach of a 'Punto' supermarket near San Lorenzo and the small local shops of Salizada San Francesco and Barbaria Del Tole for an easy self-catering stay and for doing as much, or as little, as you like!
OUR COMMENT

Maybe the ice-box in the fridge should be defrosted as we suspect it is preventing fridge from working efficiently (ie fridge not quite cold enough?)

Worth every cent, every time. Apartments are always perfectly suited to me (alone, couple, family and this time just me and my teenaged son!) as far as size, location, amenities. Clean, clean, clean and quiet, my boy loved having our own 'private' bridge to the house. I managed to lock us out on our last night, a Saturday night at 9pm, and VOV were very gracious about finding someone to get the emergency keys and let me back in, so extra points for that. Service above and beyond, fabulous apartments, VOV is just the ticket for anyone's trip to Venice.

The not so good: The somewhat noisy air conditioning system in a cupboard by the sink was a surprise - the noise could have become a little disturbing had we spent a lot of time in the apartment. The white coverings on the couches etc - nice idea, but perhaps not overly practical. Need to be cleaned frequently to maintain the decorative impact. The absolutely fabulous: location (quiet residential, but within walking distance of the main tourist areas), bed comfort, bathroom (modern - particularly good shower), kitchen (modern and well equipped), dining area (charming - the tiled table is stunning), washing machine and, in spite of the noise, the airconditioning system - it provided very welcome respite from the heat outside) We also greatly appreciated the service given by the young lady who came to collect us from the vaporetto stop.

Wow, what a wonderful place to stay in Venice. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood away from the tourist crowds, yet within easy walking distance of all the major sights. Also, just a couple of doors down from several lovely trattorias. The apartment was clean and spacious with spectacular views from our balcony. This place is a travelers dream. The management team could not have been more helpful. They even made all of our private taxi transport arrangements. I highly recommend this lovely rental.
