Description
A Venetian chocolate box cottage on the sleepy Rio de Sant’ Andrea canal, offering pared-down Italian elegance and delightful water views.
Warm polenta yellow outside and sarde silver-blue within, this crisply appointed casa will steal your heart from the very start!
Affording guests a level of privacy only an independent house can offer, and air-conditioned for all those hazy ¬- and lazy! – summer days ahead, this charming home sleeps 6 in remodelled surroundings spread over 4 floors* of the property with a slim-line terrace near the top.
Next door-but-one neighbour to the Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello* in a timeless pocket of Cannaregio residents keep (almost!) for themselves, this sunny and south-facing cottage with Wi-Fi offers 2 bedrooms/3 bathrooms and ample living space throughout.
Peacefully positioned along a path much less travelled on an ‘island within an island’ off the radar of the tourist crowds, La Dimora di Sant’ Andrea’s spruce and ship-shape accommodation comprises:
Ground Floor
Private entrance leading directly into
• An attractive main sitting/dining room dressed in gentle colours and furnished with a 3-seater sofa and a glass-topped dining table for 6
• A streamlined and well-equipped modern kitchen area to the rear
• A modern bathroom with tiled shower
Stairs rising to the
1st Floor leading directly into
• An additional sitting/TV/relaxation area with a comfortable 3-seater sofa leading towards
• A smart double bedroom overlooking the canal with twin beds (which can be made into a double upon request) and plenty of wardrobe space
Stairs rising to the
2nd Floor leading towards
• The 2nd double bedroom furnished with a double bed, dressed in a similar style to the first – think soft colours, framed photo prints of Venice, elegant floor-length drapes - and enjoying the same sublime canal views
• A modern bathroom with bathtub
Stairs rising to the
3rd Floor where we find
• A cosy studio/snug with sloping beams and a double sofa bed, plus access to the side onto a narrow (but very sweet!) little terrace with roofscape
• A modern bathroom with tiled shower which completes La Dimora di Sant’ Andrea’s charming and practical accommodation
(* Today home to the Italian-German Cultural Association of Venice)
OUR COMMENT
A cottage on the canal with a fresh, contemporary interior offering flexible accommodation in an authentic part of town…
… A much-loved district with a traditional old-world charm characterised by peaceful residential areas, a host of historic landmarks including the spectacular fairy tale Ca’ d’Oro and the ancient Jewish Ghetto, plus long and wide canal-side ‘fondamente’ including the Fondamente de la Misericordia and de la Sensa (with their fabulous selection of local restaurants and bacari – including our favourites Anice Stellato, Paradiso Perduto, Vino Vero and the characterful bookshop-bistrot-cafe Sullaluna), plus the Fondamente Nove – Venice’s northern waterfront overlooking the waters of the lagoon towards the distant peaks of the Dolomite mountains.
Within an easy stroll of some wonderful churches including the dainty jewel-box Santa Maria dei Miracoli, the Gesuiti with its towering white façade and statues of the Apostles, and Madonna dell’ Orto - final resting place of the painter Tintoretto (‘Little Dyer’).
Close to the Strada Nova where you find shops galore to satisfy all your shopping needs, plus a well-stocked Coop Supermarket at San Felice.
Convenient to 2 vaporetto (water bus) stops – Ca’ d’Oro and Fondamente Nove – the latter allowing for easy travel to the beaches of the Lido and to the glass-blowing island of Murano, with connections at Fondamente Nove for the rainbow-coloured island of Burano and the island of Torcello.
Also a stone’s throw to the traghetto at Campo Santa Sofia, which during operating times, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the famous Rialto Market in the district of San Polo.
