Our latest Sicilian adventure brings us to the extraordinary island of Ortigia, the historic heart of Syracuse, connected to the city by two bridges, where centuries of history, sun-washed streets, magnificent architecture and the unmistakable rhythm of Sicilian life come together to create one of southeastern Sicily’s most captivating destinations.

Dimora Italia has now landed in Ortigia, with two beautifully spacious residences occupying the first and second floors of the same building on Via Ronco I alla Fontana, right in the heart of this atmospheric island.

Individually named Bianca Arethusa and Blu Calypso, these two elegant homes can be reserved separately or together, creating a wonderfully flexible arrangement for up to 12 guests and, above all, an exceptional base from which to discover Ortigia at your own pace.

Both residences have been conceived for relaxed Sicilian living, with generous interiors, private outdoor spaces and fully equipped kitchens providing everything needed for an effortless stay. And, particularly useful when travelling as a group, every bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom, offering guests both privacy and comfort.

Because this is a place best experienced on foot.

Step outside and the ancient city unfolds around you: narrow lanes leading to unexpected piazzas, Baroque façades glowing in the Sicilian light, tiny cafés and restaurants tucked into the historic fabric, and the constant temptation to turn down one more street simply to see where it leads.

And when it is time to slow down, the wonderful Sicilian sea is just a short distance away, with a choice of equipped lidos nearby for those days when exploring is happily replaced by swimming, sunshine and doing very little at all.

With air-conditioning and Wi-Fi, all the modern comforts are quietly taken care of.

Occupying the first floor, Bianca Arethusa offers a wonderfully intimate interpretation of the Ortigia experience, welcoming up to four guests in two beautifully proportioned bedrooms.

Generous throughout, the apartment provides comfortable shared spaces in which to relax after a day spent discovering the city, together with a private terrace and balcony providing a delightful outdoor extension to the home.

The two bedrooms each enjoy their own ensuite bathroom, making Bianca Arethusa particularly well suited to a family or two couples travelling together and seeking both convivial communal spaces and a little privacy.

A fully equipped independent kitchen provides everything required for relaxed self-catering, whether for a leisurely breakfast before heading out into the city or an impromptu Sicilian supper after a day of exploration.

With air-conditioning and Wi-Fi, Bianca Arethusa combines the comfort of a generous private residence with the wonderful privilege of having Ortigia itself on the doorstep.

DISCOVERING ORTIGIA

And then there is Ortigia itself… a place where the greatest pleasure is simply to wander.

A compact island of ancient streets, honey-coloured stone, elegant palazzi, Baroque masterpieces and hidden corners, Ortigia is the kind of place that rewards curiosity, while its two bridges make it wonderfully easy to move between the historic centre and Syracuse beyond.

From Via Ronco I alla Fontana, guests can set off on foot and gradually discover the city’s many layers, wandering through atmospheric lanes towards the magnificent Piazza del Duomo, pausing to admire the extraordinary Cathedral of Syracuse, or finding the legendary Fonte Aretusa almost by accident.

There are cafés for a morning espresso, trattorie for long Sicilian lunches, boutiques and artisan shops to browse, and bars that seem to invite you to stop for an aperitivo just when you thought you were heading home.

The pleasure is in taking your time: following the streets without a particular plan, discovering a new piazza, sitting beneath an old façade and watching Ortigia go about its daily life.

And when the mood takes you towards the coast, the beautiful Sicilian sea and nearby equipped lidos offer a wonderfully different way to spend the day.

For those with the urge to explore further, Syracuse and southeastern Sicily offer an extraordinary collection of places to discover, from ancient archaeological sites and beautiful coastal landscapes to the magnificent Baroque towns of the Val di Noto.

For guests arriving by car, paid parking options are available within walking distance of the residences, making it possible to leave the car behind and enjoy Ortigia exactly as it should be experienced: on foot.

Bianca Arethusa occupies the first floor and sleeps 4 guests across 2 bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom, with a private terrace and balcony.

Blu Calypso occupies the second floor and sleeps 8 guests across 4 bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom, with a private terrace and balcony enjoying an elevated outlook across the surrounding cityscape.

Reserved together, the two residences can accommodate up to 12 guests, making this an especially appealing option for larger families or groups of friends who want to discover Ortigia together while retaining the comfort and independence of separate homes.

Fully equipped kitchens, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and inviting outdoor spaces complete these two beautifully comfortable Sicilian residences — wonderfully placed for stepping out of the front door and into the story of Ortigia.

Beds will be arranged as either doubles or twins as shown in the photos. The possibility of turning a double bed into twins or vice versa can be found in the description and must be requested at least 7 days before arrival.
