Description
Along a hidden little alley with a courtyard at its fore,
Sits a quaint Venetian ‘casetta’ with an apartment on each floor!
-
As ‘cute as pie’, recently revamped in anticipation of your stay, the sleeps 6 (+3) Lo Squero comprises 3 entirely separate apartments** offering comfort, a top location and quiet elegance all the way.
Situated on a peaceful Dorsoduro calle leading to the narrow Rio de Toresele canal where once there stood a squero (boatyard) many, many moons ago, each charming Lo Squero apartment promises a perfect base in Venice for couples, solo travellers and groups of up to 9 when booked as a whole.
‘Hidden in plain sight’ just moments from Campo San Vio**, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the dazzling Zattere promenade, and boasting Wi-Fi connection and a washing machine in each, the fully air-conditioned apartments are spread over 3 floors of the property (one per level) and include:
Lo Squero 1 – Ground Floor
Lo Squero 1 Secret Courtyard Apartment in Dorsoduro
Accessed via its own private doorway on the delightful ‘Corte Nostra’ at the front of the house, this utterly delicious little apartment sleeps 2 (+1) and comprises:
Shared with neighbouring properties – a picture-perfect and romantic typically Venetian hidden courtyard, filled with a plethora of potted plants including flowering oleander and sago palm, and furnished with Lo Squero 1’s own garden table and chairs for enjoying a Campari spritz in the sun or shade
A bijou and very pretty ‘Positano-meets-Venezia–style’ open-plan main living room looking onto the courtyard and comprising a sitting area with a single sofa bed and a dining area/well-equipped kitchen complete with full oven and table for 4
A bright and beautiful master bedroom lovingly presented in seaside colours, with a double bed, an ancient fireplace (no longer in use) plus walls attractively adorned with a collection of seashells and wood-carvings
And completing Lo Squero 1’s single level accommodation:
A simple tiled bathroom with shower
* Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close to each other but in separate apartments? We offer 2 other units in this characterful Venetian casetta (little house): Lo Squero 2 (on the 1st Floor) and Lo Squero 3 (on the 2nd Floor)
** A location featured prominently in David Lean’s iconic film ‘Summertime’ starring Katherine Hepburn, and home to St. George’s Anglican Church in Venice (as well as a manned gondola stand for exploring the canals!)
OUR COMMENT
A Venetian casetta that’s sure to make you smile, just tucked away on Dorsoduro’s ‘Museum Mile’…
A short amble to the iconic Church of the Salute, the Accademia Galleries and Bridge (and the VOV office!), the Palazzo Cini Gallery, plus the Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art, and close to a variety of fine eating places and bars including Ai Gondolieri and Ristorante Riviera for fine dining, and Corner Pub, Osteria Al Squero and Cantinone Gia Schiavi for cicheti and spritz.
An easy waterside stroll to 2 Conad supermarkets – one at the western end of the Zattere and a smaller one closer to home at Zattere Spirito Santo – and to 4 vaporetto (water bus) stops – Zattere Spirito Santo, Zattere, Salute and Accademia – for travel around the city (note that St. Mark’s Square can be reached by vaporetto from Salute in under 5 minutes on Line 1!)
Also close to the ‘traghetto’ at Calle Lanza/Calle del Traghetto S. Gregorio which, during operating hours, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the district of San Marco, and within easy reach of the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport.
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.
Beds will be arranged as either doubles or twins as shown in the photos. The possibility of turning a double bed into twins or vice versa can be found in the description and must be requested at least 7 days before arrival.

A perfect hideaway in a sleepy Calle in Dorsoduro. Lovely to arrive back at Lo Squero after a busy day sightseeing. So grateful to have found this apartment …it was ideal for my mum as the layout is all on the same level. The Views on Venice hosts were very caring and thoughtful and were there to respond to any question almost immediately no matter what time of day. I would go back to the same place if I ever revisit Venice. Thank you

One of our party used a wheelchair and Enrica and her colleagues were hugely helpful in helping us get from the airport to the accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble for Enrica and she responded promptly to messages. The accommodation is tucked away up an alley and so is very quiet and secluded but also close to many amenities. We will certainly return. Thank you Enrica and Views on Venice!

The location was excellent for me. The apartment is on a very quiet calle so no issues with late night or early morning noise. The small courtyard is shared with the residents whose homes also open onto the space. Not an issue just an fyi.

We have been fortunate enough to visit Venice on a number of occasions and have used ViewsonVenice every time. The apartments are always exactly as portrayed. Lo Squero 1 The Secret Courtyard is a little gem, ideal for a couple, very quiet location but close to all the sites, with a full range of facilities and a nice amount of space. Annalisa and her team couldn't have been more helpful, booking water taxis, welcoming us to the apartment and allowing us to adjust over checkout time. We hope to visit again.

The apartment was nicely heated and warm in all rooms, which is not always easy to find in Venice.

This is a gem of a place, beautifully renovated, down a small alleyway - very quiet. There is a small courtyard out front to sit outside. The apartment is very stylish, lots if nice details.

An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square.
Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire.
Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 10 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes!
Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs.
Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include:
Corte Rubbi 7 – on the 2nd Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 2 (+1)
A ravishing and restful 1 bedroomed apartment comprising:
A main living / dining area with well-equipped kitchenette (suited to light cooking)…. strikingly presented in shades of steely blue and dusky rose pink and with wooden beams overhead, a combination of Venetian terrazzo and wooden parquet flooring underfoot, a dining table for 3, plus exposed painted brickwork and a trapeze-artist mural set above a luxuriously large ruby-red velvet sofa (sleeping 1/for lounging)
A warm and inviting wooden beamed double bedroom in gold and pink with a beautiful Murano glass chandelier overhead, terrazzo flooring underfoot and a tall window just to the side of a Rococo-style double bed
A luxurious bathroom with chromotherapy shower, situated at the apartment entrance/to the rear of the living room
Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer 9 other apartments within this palazzo: Corte Rubbi 1, Corte Rubbi 3, Corte Rubbi 5, Corte Rubbi 6, Corte Rubbi 8, Corte Rubbi 9, Corte Rubbi 10, Corte Rubbi 11 and Corte Rubbi 5514
OUR COMMENT
A delightful city-base for 3, full of style and joie de vivre, in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town.
A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront…
… A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe…
… Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness…
Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo.
Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini.

Welcome to the distinctive Ca’ Del Monastero, an elegant collection of beautifully restored apartments located within the former monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Zan Degolà, one of Venice’s oldest and most fascinating churches. Nestled in the authentic district of Santa Croce, just moments from the Grand Canal, the residence offers a rare opportunity to experience Venice from a privileged and peaceful setting.
Carefully renovated throughout, the apartments blend historic character with contemporary comfort. Traditional Venetian terrazzo floors, refined finishes and thoughtfully selected furnishings create welcoming interiors designed for modern living while preserving the building’s rich heritage.
Enhanced by a range of modern amenities, including air-conditioning***, Wi-Fi connection and communal utility facilities, Ca’ Del Monastero provides the perfect base from which to discover Venice while enjoying the atmosphere of one of the city’s most genuine neighbourhoods.
Ca’ Del Monastero 8
Bright, elegant and exceptionally welcoming, Ca’ Del Monastero 8 is a charming one-bedroom apartment offering comfortable accommodation for up to four guests, together with access to a delightful shared internal courtyard.
Situated on the second floor of the residence and reached by stairs, the apartment enjoys a peaceful position overlooking the quiet Salizada and towards the historic grounds of the Natural History Museum, housed within the remarkable Fondaco dei Turchi.
Accessed through a separate entrance from the Salizada below, the apartment immediately conveys a sense of tranquillity and comfort. Soft neutral tones, elegant wall coverings and carefully coordinated furnishings create bright and inviting interiors throughout.
The welcoming living room is furnished with a comfortable sofa bed and armchair, providing an ideal space for relaxing after a day exploring Venice. Large windows allow natural light to fill the room while maintaining a calm and private atmosphere.
Adjacent to the living area is a fully equipped kitchen with dining space, offering everything required for preparing breakfast, lunch or dinner in complete comfort. Contemporary finishes and practical design make the space both functional and attractive.
The elegant double bedroom provides a peaceful retreat, featuring refined furnishings, generous storage space and a soothing colour palette designed to promote rest and relaxation.
The modern bathroom is finished to a high standard and includes a spacious shower.
A further highlight of the apartment is access to the attractive furnished internal courtyard on the ground floor. Shared exclusively with guests of Ca’ Del Monastero 5, this quiet outdoor space offers a rare opportunity to enjoy a peaceful moment away from the bustle of the city, whether for a morning coffee, an afternoon break or an evening aperitivo.
Comfortable, practical and perfectly positioned, Ca’ Del Monastero 8 is an ideal choice for couples seeking additional space or for small families wishing to experience Venice from an authentic residential setting.
The furnished internal courtyard is shared with guests staying at Ca’ Del Monastero 5.
Ca’ Del Monastero 8 and Ca’ Del Monastero 5 occupy a separate section of the residence with an independent entrance from the Salizada, creating an intimate and private setting within the larger Ca’ Del Monastero complex.
When booked together, the two apartments offer an ideal solution for extended families, couples travelling together or groups of friends who wish to stay close to one another while maintaining the privacy and independence of separate accommodations. The shared courtyard provides a welcoming space for gathering and socialising, combining conviviality with the comfort of having one’s own private apartment.
Our Comment
A bright and elegant apartment combining comfort, privacy and authentic Venetian atmosphere, complemented by the rare advantage of a peaceful shared courtyard.
The location is ideal for discovering Venice on foot. Venice Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma are within easy walking distance, while the vaporetto stops at Riva di Biasio and San Stae are just moments away, providing convenient access to all areas of the city.
One of Venice’s most charming squares, Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio, lies just around the corner. Beloved by locals, this picturesque square is surrounded by cafés, small shops and a well-stocked supermarket, offering visitors a genuine glimpse into everyday Venetian life.
Nearby you will find a wide selection of excellent restaurants and traditional bacari, including All’Anfora, La Zucca, Il Refolo, Al Prosecco and Antica Besseta.
The apartment is also conveniently located for visiting Ca’ Pesaro, Palazzo Mocenigo, the Fondazione Prada at Ca’ Corner della Regina, the Basilica dei Frari, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Campo San Polo and the vibrant Rialto district with its famous market and culinary delights.
