Description
A dream address for 4 guests boasting 2 terraces – and the perfect base for Venice-lovers who’ve been away for far too long!
Bathed in light atop a property on the Cannaregio / Castello border in a district where you can choose to be as busy or as laid-back as you please, we’re delighted to share the details of this peaceful 3rd floor penthouse between Santi Giovanni e Paolo and Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
Within easy reach of St. Mark’s Square and the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale (and where chatty locals going about their day seem to outnumber tourists who’ve lost their way!), this newly restored apartment features 2 quietly stylish bedrooms and all the accoutrements required for a perfect Venetian holiday.
Combining a creamy white colourway and contemporary furnishings with beautiful aged beams and warm timber flooring, its aesthetic is one of comfort, modern elegance and easy living, while its pair of gorgeous terraces add a fabulous ‘al fresco’ dimension to your stay.
Airy, cheerful and boasting rooftop views along the characterful street known as Barbaria de le Tole taking in the monumental statues on the façade of the nearby church of the Ospedaletto (Santa Maria dei Derelitti), the air-conditioned Colleoni Terrace offers Wi-Fi and a washing machine within spacious accommodation comprising:
A communal doorway / entrance with stairs (no lift) rising up to the:
3rd (top) Floor
• A private doorway leading into the apartment’s…
• Entrance hallway
• A wonderfully welcoming sitting / dining room with a large L-shaped sofa, dining suite for 4 lit by a low-hanging crystal chandelier, and a glass door leading out onto a long furnished terrace dotted with a plethora of plants and shaded by retractable awnings during the lazy hazy days of a Venetian summer
• A modern well-equipped galley-style kitchen, which also opens out onto the above-mentioned furnished terrace making the prep and serving of your apertivi with nibbles a doddle!
• An attractive principal bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and a glazed door leading out onto a 2nd south-facing terrace with retractable awnings – shared with the 2nd bedroom and overlooking the quiet inner Corte del Parucchier (Courtyard of the Hairdresser) with its ancient well-head… so much history! – plus a smart en suite bathroom with tiled shower
• A similarly attired double bedroom with double bed (which can be made into twins at your request), wardrobe, writing desk / workspace and a glazed door leading out onto the 2nd south-facing terrace shared with the principal bedroom
• A further separate contemporary bathroom, also with tiled shower
OUR COMMENT
Named after the striking 15th-century bronze equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni standing proud at the centre of the café-and-canal-fringed Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo nearby, a ‘TERRAZZA-TASTIC’ new addition to the VOV portfolio offering wonderful accommodation both inside and out!
Sitting at the edges of Venice’s busier commercial heart in an area more in-tune with the genuine Venetian neighbourhoods characterised by gently flapping washing lines, sun-dappled courtyards and labyrinthine alleyways just waiting to be discovered, Colleoni Terrace is within a stone's throw of the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (known as 'Zanipolo' in dialect - one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges) and on the 'right' side of town for visiting the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini.
A gentle walk to St. Mark’s Square (and to Palazzo Grimani and the much-photgraphed Libreria Acqua Alta bookshop both near the wonderful Campo Santa Maria Formosa), the richly atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni with its paintings by Carpaccio, the famous Rialto Bridge and its food markets, and the dainty jewel-box church of Santa Maria Dei Miracoli – so pretty…
Within moments of a great selection of cafes, bars and restaurants including Spaghetteria 6342 A Le Tole Pizzeria/Ristorante, Osteria Alla Staffa, Trattoria Bandierette, Osteria al Mascaron and the small local shops along Barbaria de le Tole…
And within easy reach of Salizada San Giustina (where you’ll find the splendid old-style Gastronomia Ortis, a grocery shop since 1914), the little shops of Salizada San Francesco, the 'Punto Simply' supermarket near San Lorenzo, the COOP Querini supermarket on the Fondamente Nove and the COOP at Calle Del Mondo Novo (near Santa Maria Formosa) for all your self-catering needs.
Also close to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Ospedale (with no bridges to cross in between) for easy travel around the city, trips to beaches of the Lido and visits to the glass-blowing island of Murano, the rainbow-coloured island of Burano and the ancient island of Torcello with its 7th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.
Beds will be arranged as either doubles or twins as shown in the photos. The possibility of turning a double bed into twins or vice versa can be found in the description and must be requested at least 7 days before arrival.

Great location, close to tourist sites but not in the commotion all the time. Lovely apartment - terrace is awesome. Groceries and cafes near by. Very helpful with our needs. Church bells to remind us of the magic of Venice.

The location is excellent, away from the hordes of tourists but with plenty of restaurants and local flavor. Conveniently located near a canal for water taxi access for airport transfers. And, only steps away from the breathtaking Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. Views on Venice service was excellent, from having flowers and Prosecco delivered for a birthday to arranging a water taxi to the airport. A five-star experience.

Nothing major comes to mind. Maybe a lamp or two for more intimate lighting. The chandelier in the dining / living area is pretty bright!

The apartment was immaculate and well-appointed. The large terrace is the highlight of the property. An electrically-operated retractable canopy makes the terrace pleasant at any time of the day, offering beautiful views and sounds of the city. The property is outside of the most crowded area of Venice but within an approximately 10-minute direct walk to the Piazza San Marco area. A decent COOP grocery store is about 5 minutes from the property, and various other smaller grocery stores are within steps, on the same street. The management team was very helpful and responsive. Located at the 3rd (top) floor of the building, the apartment is only accessibly by stairs but this did not feel strenuous to any of us (all in our 50s). We highly recommend this property, which we would definitely try to book again next time in Venice.

Lovely apartment which is in a really good location and within easy walking distance to a lot of sights with cafes and restaurants close by. We enjoyed having the terrace to sit out on but be aware that there are a lot of stairs if mobility is an issue. Communication from the team was excellent and being met at the apartment was a real boon as it allows you to ask questions face to face. They also organised transfers for us and this was also an excellent service.

A perennial VOV favourite that just gets better with age!
Matured like a fine wine to be sipped and savoured by its guests and ravishingly renovated in late 2019 to maintain (and exceed!) the high standards expected during your stay, the charming Ca’ Belle Arti sits on the 1st floor of a little ‘casa’ in the heart of Dorsoduro beside the tranquil Campo Sant’ Agnese.
Within minutes of the Accademia Bridge/Galleries, the Palazzo Cini Gallery and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and just a few steps (via a short ‘sotoportego’) to the stunning Zattere promenade along the glittering Giudecca Canal, this evergreen apartment boasts 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms, plus Wi-Fi and air-conditioning to keep you connected, comfy and cool.
Welcoming in ambience, timeless in decor and putting relaxation at the heart of the house, the ‘sleeps 4’ Ca’ Belle Arti is both cosy and stylish and comprises:
Ground floor
• A private front entrance leading directly into the apartment’s vestibule hallway with a handy laundry room equipped with a washing machine situated to the rear.
A short staircase rising up to the 1st (main) floor, where you’ll find:
• Attractively presented in co-ordinated neutral colours, a splendid open-plan main sitting room/kitchen/dining area offering plenty of space for everyone to be together and showcasing characterful wooden beams overhead, a pair of tall windows to the fore letting in plenty of light with custom-built cabinetry beneath, a series of sepia architectural wall-prints set above a squishy sofa and double sofa bed furnished with cushions galore, a compact yet fully-fitted kitchen with all the necessary appliances for easy self-catering, and a dining space with ample seating as part of the kitchen.
And just to the side of the main room:
• A bright and elegantly presented master bedroom with a tall beamed ceiling, a pair of windows facing the campo, warm wooden flooring underfoot to match that of the sitting room, a walk-in wardrobe, a comfortable double bed (which can be made into twins upon request) and an en suite bathroom with modern shower.
While tucked away peacefully to the rear of Ca’ Belle Arti sits:
• The masterfully upgraded 2nd bedroom ¬– more ‘bijou’ than the master – charmingly decked out in restful eau-de-nil and furnished with a custom-built single wardrobe to each side of its well-dressed double bed.
And completing the accommodation towards the centre of the apartment:
• Ca’ Belle Arti’s 2nd bathroom with modern fittings and a bathtub with shower over.
Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer another gorgeous apartment just a few steps away: Ca’ Dell’ Ulivo
OUR COMMENT
A much-loved apartment with a very loyal following, newly renovated and peacefully placed in one of Venice’s most select residential locales (and situated right at the foot of the sleepy little calle where, in a scene from the classic 1955 must-watch David Lean film ‘Summertime’, Katharine Hepburn and her street urchin companion laugh as they cool themselves down in the waters of the neighbourhood fountain!)
Close to the Church of the Gesuati (Santa Maria del Rosario), the Church of Santa Maria Della Salute, the Punta Della Dogana Museum of Contemporary Art and to a great choice of eating places including the well-reviewed Ristorante Agli Alboretti approaching the Accademia Bridge via the avenue of Oleander that is the Rio Tera Foscarini; the famous gelataria Da Nico; the popular and long-standing Trattoria Ai Cugnai and Corner Pub; the Osteria Al Squero and Cantinone Gia Schiavi - Al Bottegon (both perfect for spritz and ‘cicheti’); the upscale Ai Gondolieri behind the Guggenheim and the equally upscale Ristorante Riviera overlooking the Zattere; or for something simpler, Oke with its mind-boggling variety of eat-in or takeaway pizza.
Also within a short canal-side walk of the well-stocked Conad supermarket at the western end of the Zattere for all your self-catering needs, and minutes to 2 vaporetto (water bus) stops – ‘Zattere’ to the south and ‘Accademia’ to the north – plus only 1 minute to the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport.

Ca’ Del Monastero 1
Introducing the very special Ca’ Del Monastero - a fine antique residence comprising 9 superbly restored apartments of varying size (including Ca’ Del Monastero 1 - see its dedicated section below) situated in what was once the monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Zan Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), moments from the Grand Canal in the district of Santa Croce.
Enjoying an atmosphere of calm serenity in what must surely be one of Venice’s most evocative and unspoilt neighbourhoods - indeed a step back in time - the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments offer spacious and beautifully presented accommodation for small and medium size parties or up to 38 guests if taken together.*
No expense has been spared in its recent remodelling…
Carefully co-ordinated contemporary furnishings and soft neutral colours meld seamlessly against a traditional backdrop of polished red marble and/or traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring, while stylish high-spec fittings and attractive finishes, such as textured resin walls and luxurious feature wall coverings, give a fresh and fashionable twist to the building’s ancient framework.
Enhanced by a range of up-to-date facilities as demanded by today’s savvy traveller (including air-conditioning**, Wi-Fi internet connection and a communal utility room with washing machine), the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments are perfectly placed for communing with the true and heart and soul of the city and for visiting all that Venice has to offer while providing all the comforts of modern city living.
Ca’ Del Monastero 1
A charming and well-proportioned 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment with picturesque views of the Church, Campo and Rio de San Degolà.
Sleeping four and situated on the 1st floor of the residence with lift, the apartment comprises an attractive main sitting room with beautiful rustic ceiling beams, a large L-shaped sofa ideal for relaxation, trendy clear ‘ghost’ armchairs adding to the feeling of space and two full-length double doors opening onto a pretty Juliet balcony overlooking the square.
Double doors from the sitting room lead directly into a stylish dining room featuring large windows facing the square and a modern-style glass chandelier above a dining suite seating four which in turn leads into a smart, up-to-date and well-equipped kitchen with everything one would require for easy self-catering.
Also facing the campo is a double bedroom with a french-bed sleeping two and a separate bathroom with modern shower just to the side, while to the rear of the property sits the apartment’s chic and very roomy main bedroom with double bed and desk area plus a further separate bathroom with bathtub and shower over.
*Are you a part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer eight other apartments within this residence: Ca’ Del Monastero 2, Ca’ Del Monastero 3, Ca’ Del Monastero 4, Ca’ Del Monastero 5, Ca’ Del Monastero 6, Ca’ Del Monastero 7, Ca’ Del Monastero 8, Ca' Del Monastero 9.
Our Comment
Style, creature comforts and history combined, in an area brimming with local flavour.
Within easy walking distance of Venice’s Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma if travelling light, and even closer to the vaporetto (waterbus) stops at Riva di Biasio and San Stae on the Grand Canal for hassle-free travel around the city.
And so much to see and do right on your doorstep…
Moments to Campo San Giacomo Dell’ Orio - one of Venice’s most charming ‘away from the crowds’ tree-filled squares and home to a well-stocked Coop supermarket and nearby local shops - and a short walk to a Conad supermarket on the Rio Marin canal.
Close to a great variety of cafes, bars and eateries including All’ Anfora, La Zucca, Il Refolo, Al Prosecco and Antica Besseta to name but a few, and within minutes of the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, Palazzo Mocenigo at San Stae (Museum of the History of Fabrics, Costumes and Perfumes) and the Fondazione Prada at Ca’ Corner Della Regina.
A leisurely stroll to the 14th Century Franciscan Church of the Frari, (home to Canova's extraordinary triangular marble tomb and Titian's legendary masterpiece, the 'Assumption'), the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with its amazing Tintoretto’s, the vast palazzo-lined Campo San Polo plus the culinary delights and buzz of the Rialto.
** Please note that the operation of air-conditioning and heating are subject to municipality regulation. In general, heating is available from mid-October to mid-April, while air-conditioning is available from mid-April to mid-October. Please contact us for further information.
