Description
Come and chill out at our cute Castello condo! –
A fuss-and-frills-free zone with a clean-cut appeal (plus a spacious terrace to boot :) in the very heart of town!
Close to the lively Campo San Filippo & Giacomo moments from St. Mark’s Square, yet perched up on high above a maze-like setting where 4 ancient little alleyways meet in near silence and the crowds of the Piazza have gently petered out, the air-conditioned La Bricola sleeps up to 4 guests in easy-living accommodation on the 3rd floor reached by stairs*.
Designed for those who like their Venice well-groomed and contemporary, its location allows guests to be as active as they please!
Handy for the Biennale at Arsenale & Giardini and for discovering the many faces of this multi-faceted and fabled town, the cosy and compact 2 bedroomed La Bricola offers Wi-Fi, a washing machine and the essentials of home.
Boasting honey-hued parquet flooring in all its main spaces, accommodation comprises:
· An attractive open-plan sitting-cum-dining room with whitewashed walls decorated along a fishy theme courtesy of its eye-catching ‘shoal of fish’ wall art, a double sofa for snuggling up in front of the TV, a modern dining suite for 4 set beneath a series of botanical verdure prints, and a fully-glazed double door to the side leading out onto…
· A fabulously spacious furnished terrace offering a characteristic red-tiled roof-scape, a north facing aspect (so rather more shaded/cooler in summer), and of roughly similar dimensions to the main sitting/dining room indoors!
· A neat and well-equipped fitted kitchen in white - also with a fully glazed double door leading out onto the terrace and so ideal for serving breakfast, drinks and nibbles in the fresh air
· A pristine master bedroom to the side in pared-back style with a double bed, ample wardrobe space, a pair of windows looking onto the terrace and home to the Venetian wooden bricola** which gives the apartment its name
· A slightly smaller 2nd bedroom on the opposite side of the apartment, presented in a similarly relaxing and low-key style to the master and with a double bed and chest of drawers for storage
· La Bricola’s bathroom, shared by the 2 bedrooms and accessible via the main sitting/dining room, with modern white fittings and a large shower
* Although well worth the effort, please be aware that there are a number of stairs to climb to reach the apartment - and no lift!
** The Bricola/e – The enormous wooden poles that indicate the waterways for boats in the Lagoon
OUR COMMENT
A charmingly bijou bolt-hole - modestly attired - and with a terrace that would put many others in the dark!
Close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and to Vivaldi’s La Pietà …
… A short stroll towards the very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe…
… Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of the Piazza, gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play***, the bells of the Campanile toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness…
Within a short walk of a well-stocked COOP supermarket at Salizada San Lio, to numerous bars and restaurants including Osteria Ruga di Jaffa for drinks and cicheti, Al Giardinetto da Severino, Antica Sacrestia, Luna Sentada, the Michelin-starred Il Ridotto, and the much-lauded Alle Testiere (see VOV’s Apartment Information File for further suggestions), and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips to the Lido beaches and easy travel about town
*** Note that performances are dependent on weather and season!
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.
Beds will be arranged as either doubles or twins as shown in the photos. The possibility of turning a double bed into twins or vice versa can be found in the description and must be requested at least 7 days before arrival.

This is a wonderful apartment, bright & modern, near to all the main action of Venice though tucked away enough for peace and quiet.

A pleasingly crisp, simple, modern look to an apartment which, although very centrally located, was quiet and comfortable. Well-equipped and supplied. A very good option for the Castello - San Marco border, with easy access to vaporetto.

We loved the apartment. When looking for accommodation in Venice we found many apartments to be dark and old fashioned. This apartment was the total opposite and we loved it. The decor was modern but in keeping with the style of the apartment. It was really clean and we were met at the water taxi stop and taken to the apartment.

A perennial VOV favourite that just gets better with age!
Matured like a fine wine to be sipped and savoured by its guests and ravishingly renovated in late 2019 to maintain (and exceed!) the high standards expected during your stay, the charming Ca’ Belle Arti sits on the 1st floor of a little ‘casa’ in the heart of Dorsoduro beside the tranquil Campo Sant’ Agnese.
Within minutes of the Accademia Bridge/Galleries, the Palazzo Cini Gallery and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and just a few steps (via a short ‘sotoportego’) to the stunning Zattere promenade along the glittering Giudecca Canal, this evergreen apartment boasts 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms, plus Wi-Fi and air-conditioning to keep you connected, comfy and cool.
Welcoming in ambience, timeless in decor and putting relaxation at the heart of the house, the ‘sleeps 4’ Ca’ Belle Arti is both cosy and stylish and comprises:
Ground floor
• A private front entrance leading directly into the apartment’s vestibule hallway with a handy laundry room equipped with a washing machine situated to the rear.
A short staircase rising up to the 1st (main) floor, where you’ll find:
• Attractively presented in co-ordinated neutral colours, a splendid open-plan main sitting room/kitchen/dining area offering plenty of space for everyone to be together and showcasing characterful wooden beams overhead, a pair of tall windows to the fore letting in plenty of light with custom-built cabinetry beneath, a series of sepia architectural wall-prints set above a squishy sofa and double sofa bed furnished with cushions galore, a compact yet fully-fitted kitchen with all the necessary appliances for easy self-catering, and a dining space with ample seating as part of the kitchen.
And just to the side of the main room:
• A bright and elegantly presented master bedroom with a tall beamed ceiling, a pair of windows facing the campo, warm wooden flooring underfoot to match that of the sitting room, a walk-in wardrobe, a comfortable double bed (which can be made into twins upon request) and an en suite bathroom with modern shower.
While tucked away peacefully to the rear of Ca’ Belle Arti sits:
• The masterfully upgraded 2nd bedroom ¬– more ‘bijou’ than the master – charmingly decked out in restful eau-de-nil and furnished with a custom-built single wardrobe to each side of its well-dressed double bed.
And completing the accommodation towards the centre of the apartment:
• Ca’ Belle Arti’s 2nd bathroom with modern fittings and a bathtub with shower over.
Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer another gorgeous apartment just a few steps away: Ca’ Dell’ Ulivo
OUR COMMENT
A much-loved apartment with a very loyal following, newly renovated and peacefully placed in one of Venice’s most select residential locales (and situated right at the foot of the sleepy little calle where, in a scene from the classic 1955 must-watch David Lean film ‘Summertime’, Katharine Hepburn and her street urchin companion laugh as they cool themselves down in the waters of the neighbourhood fountain!)
Close to the Church of the Gesuati (Santa Maria del Rosario), the Church of Santa Maria Della Salute, the Punta Della Dogana Museum of Contemporary Art and to a great choice of eating places including the well-reviewed Ristorante Agli Alboretti approaching the Accademia Bridge via the avenue of Oleander that is the Rio Tera Foscarini; the famous gelataria Da Nico; the popular and long-standing Trattoria Ai Cugnai and Corner Pub; the Osteria Al Squero and Cantinone Gia Schiavi - Al Bottegon (both perfect for spritz and ‘cicheti’); the upscale Ai Gondolieri behind the Guggenheim and the equally upscale Ristorante Riviera overlooking the Zattere; or for something simpler, Oke with its mind-boggling variety of eat-in or takeaway pizza.
Also within a short canal-side walk of the well-stocked Conad supermarket at the western end of the Zattere for all your self-catering needs, and minutes to 2 vaporetto (water bus) stops – ‘Zattere’ to the south and ‘Accademia’ to the north – plus only 1 minute to the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport.

Introducing the beautifully renewed Ca' Del Monastero collection — a unique residence of nine elegant apartments set within the former monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Zan Degolà, one of the oldest churches in Venice, tucked away in the authentic and atmospheric district of Santa Croce, just moments from the Grand Canal.
Recently refreshed with a sophisticated new interior concept, Ca’ Del Monastero 1 perfectly blends Venetian heritage with contemporary elegance. Warm neutral palettes, refined textured wall coverings, curated contemporary furnishings and soft natural tones create a calm and welcoming atmosphere, while original architectural details — including exposed wooden beams, terrazzo flooring and generous proportions — preserve the timeless soul of the building. The result is an apartment that feels both characterful and contemporary: an ideal Venetian retreat for families, couples or small groups seeking comfort, style and authenticity.
Located on the first floor of the residence, the apartment can be conveniently reached both by elevator and by stairs, and accommodates up to four guests. It enjoys charming views over Campo San Zan Degolà, the church and the quiet canal below.
The main living area is bright, welcoming and full of character, featuring high ceilings with rustic beams, large full-height French doors opening onto a delightful private balcony, and carefully selected furnishings designed to create both comfort and harmony. Natural light enhances the apartment’s soft colour palette and elegant finishes, while the balcony offers a pleasant outdoor corner overlooking one of Venice’s most atmospheric hidden campos.
A spacious lounge area invites guests to relax after a day exploring Venice, while the adjoining dining room provides an intimate and stylish setting for entertaining or dining at home.
The fully equipped contemporary kitchen has been thoughtfully designed for extended stays and effortless living, offering everything required for cooking and gathering comfortably.
To the front of the apartment, overlooking the campo, a second elegant sitting room offers additional flexibility and includes a French bed, ideal for occasional guests or quiet relaxation, together with a nearby bathroom with modern shower.
At the rear of the apartment, the spacious master bedroom provides a more tranquil and private atmosphere, complete with a double bed, study area and refined interiors designed around comfort and understated elegance. A second bathroom with bathtub and shower completes the accommodation.
Guests staying at Ca’ Del Monastero enjoy the rare experience of living in one of Venice’s most authentic residential neighbourhoods while remaining within easy reach of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The apartment is particularly convenient for arrivals from Venezia Santa Lucia railway station and Piazzale Roma, while the nearby vaporetto stops of Riva di Biasio vaporetto stop and San Stae vaporetto stop allow easy exploration of the city.
Just moments away lies the much-loved Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio, one of Venice’s most charming local squares, surrounded by cafés, restaurants and everyday Venetian life. Excellent restaurants including La Zucca and Antica Besseta are all within walking distance, together with cultural landmarks such as Ca' Pesaro, Palazzo Mocenigo and the magnificent Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari.
For larger groups wishing to stay close together while maintaining privacy, the residence also includes Ca’ Del Monastero 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
