Description
NEW LISTING!
Possibly the closest one could ever get to staying on your own Grand Canal houseboat (if it were permitted!) but with creature comforts, heaps of history and solid ground beneath your feet!
Sensationally situated on the gently tilting raised ground floor of the hallowed 15th-century Palazzo Mocenigo 'Ca' Vecchia' on the Grand Canal – the oldest palazzo within the legendary family of ancient Venetian palaces along this stretch of the water collectively known as 'Palazzo Mocenigo' – and rubbing shoulders with its next door neighbour, the one-time Venetian bolthole of the charismatic (and scandalous!) 18th/19th-century British romantic poet Lord Byron (and his menagerie of exotic animals!)... experience the full sensuality of Venice and the heavenly pleasures she offers from one of her most distinguished, romantic and hauntingly atmospheric addresses.
Moments from the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art and the Accademia Bridge in the chic district of San Samuele – a genteel and rarified little oasis of art and antique galleries just off Campo Santo Stefano in the San Marco ‘sestiere’ – and enjoying endlessly Instagrammable views from its floor-level canal-side windows that capture your full attention and admiration no matter the time of day or night, the air-conditioned La Loggetta sleeps 2 guests in 1-bedroomed accommodation recently refreshed with simplicity and understated elegance.
Framed by ancient, whitewashed timbers and gleaming polished terrazzo flooring that reflect the Grand Canal light with an amazing incandescence, its characterful accommodation is reached via the palazzo’s cavernous ‘androne’ hallway and comprises:
A private double door adjacent to the palazzo’s majestic ‘porta d’acqua’ water entrance (what intriguing comings and goings it must have witnessed down the centuries...! *) opening directly into...
La Loggetta’s charming open-plan Grand Canal-facing living / dining room boasting spectacular vistas of all the action on the water – from bobbing gondolas and traditional rowers to myriad delivery boats and vaporetti. Furnished with a contemporary L-shaped sofa and a leather butterfly lounge chair for resting easy after a fun-filled day of sightseeing or social engagements, a free-standing wardrobe stores all your travel and clothing necessities (along with all your luxury purchases!) while a dining suite seats 4 beside an age-old Corinthian column
A small yet practical kitchenette beneath a sloping ceiling is equipped with everything you might need for preparing light meals, simple breakfasts and the all-important aperitivi and nibbles, while...
Peacefully positioned to the rear – bijou, cocooning and setting just the right restful tone for uninterrupted sleep and the sweetest Venetian dreams – lies La Loggetta’s double bedroom with double bed
And completing the apartment...
A neat and uncluttered bathroom with rain shower
*Note that quick, smooth and hassle-free private water taxi transfers are possible, arriving at / departing from the narrow alleyway known as ‘Calle Mocenigo Ca’ Vecchia’ directly beside the palazzo (rather than via the palazzo’s private water entrance) – feel free to ask us for further details!
OUR COMMENT
A dream Grand Canal pied-à-terre for two promising the full Venetian experience within the august surroundings of one of Venice’s most notable palazzos!
Sharing its distinctly upmarket neighbourhood with some of the city’s most coveted residences and ideally placed for the first time or regular visitor to Venice who appreciates peaceful surroundings yet who’d like to stay close to many of her star attractions (including those at St. Mark’s Square and Rialto just a short walk away!)
Within a stone’s throw of the Accademia Bridge crossing the Grand Canal over to the district of Dorsoduro (check out the newly opened and beautifully positioned Moro Café and Restaurant at Palazzo Franchetti right beside it!) and within moments of traditional bars and osterie, a wine shop, a local grocery/delicatessen and a very well-stocked Despar supermarket (and a cinema!) just a little further on.
Antique shops, small galleries and little boutiques are right on your doorstep including Palwer Jewellery, Artion Galleries, Atelier Elizabetta Zanutto, interior designer Chiarastella Cattana – a discreetly sophisticated showroom of fine and distinctively woven textiles and furnishings – and, for scent-lovers, the Venice outlet of the famous Florentine ‘Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’ (one of the oldest pharmacies in the world and one time fragrance maker to Catherine de’ Medici).
Also close to two vaporetto (water bus) stops – San Samuele (Line 2) and Sant’ Angelo (Line 1) – for foot-friendly exploration of the city, and moments to the local traghetto at Garzoni which, during operating times, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to San Toma in the district of San Polo... watch it crossing from your windows!
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for ‘late arrival’ of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organise arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.

Introducing the exclusive Ca’ Del Monastero, a unique collection of beautifully restored apartments set within the former monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Zan Degolà, one of Venice’s oldest and most fascinating churches. Nestled in the authentic district of Santa Croce, just moments from the Grand Canal, the residence offers a rare opportunity to experience Venice from a privileged and remarkably peaceful setting.
Carefully restored to combine historic character with contemporary comfort, the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments blend elegant interiors, refined finishes and modern amenities within a building rich in centuries of history. Traditional Venetian terrazzo floors, exposed architectural elements and thoughtfully selected furnishings create an atmosphere that is both welcoming and sophisticated.
Equipped with air conditioning***, Wi-Fi connection and modern conveniences throughout, the residence offers the perfect base for discovering the city's treasures while enjoying the comforts of contemporary living.
Ca’ Del Monastero 7
Occupying the very top floor of the residence, Ca’ Del Monastero 7 is a spectacular Venetian loft crowned by a private altana rooftop terrace overlooking the rooftops and bell towers of Venice.
Reached by lift to the second floor and then one final flight of stairs, this exceptional apartment welcomes guests into an impressive open-plan living space where soaring ceilings and magnificent exposed timber beams create an unforgettable sense of volume and character.
Bathed in natural light from roof windows and dormers, the apartment combines contemporary elegance with the charm of traditional Venetian architecture. The spacious living area offers comfortable seating, a television area and generous room to relax after a day exploring the city.
Adjacent to the living space is a fully equipped modern kitchen featuring everything needed for preparing meals at home, together with a dining area perfect for leisurely breakfasts or intimate dinners.
The sleeping area has been thoughtfully designed to preserve the openness of the loft while ensuring comfort and privacy.
The elegant master bedroom is partially separated from the main living space and features a comfortable double bed, refined furnishings and warm contemporary finishes that complement the historic structure.
The modern bathroom is generously sized and includes both a bathtub and a separate walk-in shower.
The true highlight of the apartment lies just beyond the bedroom: a staircase leads to the private altana, one of Venice’s most iconic architectural features. From this exclusive rooftop terrace guests can enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding rooftops, taking in the dome and bell tower of San Geremia, the distinctive turret of the Fondaco dei Turchi – home to Venice’s Natural History Museum – and the nearby bell tower of San Zan Degolà. It is the perfect setting for a morning coffee, an evening aperitivo or simply admiring Venice from above.
A truly unique retreat where contemporary comfort meets timeless Venetian charm.
Good to know
Please note that, due to the historic attic architecture and sloping ceilings, certain areas of the apartment have reduced headroom. We kindly recommend consulting the photo gallery carefully before booking.
The bedroom area is partially separated from the living space and may not provide complete visual privacy.
Our Comment
A truly distinctive Venetian loft offering generous living spaces, exceptional character and the rare luxury of a private rooftop altana.
Ideally located within easy walking distance of Venice Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma, and even closer to the vaporetto stops of Riva di Biasio and San Stae, providing convenient connections throughout the city.
The surrounding neighbourhood is one of Venice’s most authentic and atmospheric areas, far from the busiest tourist routes yet within easy reach of the city’s most celebrated landmarks.
Just moments away lies Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio, one of Venice’s most beloved squares, shaded by trees and frequented mainly by locals. Here guests will find cafés, restaurants, small shops and a well-stocked supermarket.
Excellent dining options abound nearby, including All’Anfora, La Zucca, Il Refolo, Al Prosecco and Antica Besseta, while cultural attractions such as Ca’ Pesaro, Palazzo Mocenigo and the Fondazione Prada at Ca’ Corner della Regina are all within a short stroll.
The Basilica dei Frari, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Campo San Polo and the vibrant Rialto district are also easily reached on foot, allowing guests to experience the very best of Venice directly from their doorstep.

Three newly revamped apartments in a pretty, salmon-pink, antique palazzetto within the calm and cultured setting of upmarket San Samuele.
Elegantly attired in a classic, homely style and peacefully positioned within a genteel neighbourhood dotted with galleries and antique shops well clear of the hustle and bustle yet close to Campo Santo Stefano, these inviting apartments are of differing sizes and sleep up to 10 guests when taken together.
Just a few steps from the renowned Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art in a parish that legendary lover Casanova called home, the palazzetto offers a stylish address to rest easy within a short and pleasant stroll of the many attractions of St. Mark’s Square.
Moments from the illustrious Palazzo Mocenigo on the Grand Canal (the one time Venetian bolthole of ‘mad, bad and dangerous to know’ British romantic poet and literary figure, Lord Byron) and boasting air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and a warm and welcoming ambience in each, the Ca’ Grassi apartments comprise:
Ca’ Grassi 3 (Sleeps 3 on the 3rd (top) Floor reached by stairs – no lift)
Communal palazzetto entrance with stairs rising up to the apartment entrance
• The apartment’s internal hallway and short stairway leading directly up to the stylish, high-vaulted, loft-style main sitting/dining room/kitchenette – a characterful space dressed in sun-bleached eau de nil and parched papyrus colours featuring a large L-shaped sofa, bespoke shelving and cabinetry inset with wall-mounted TV plus several windows overlooking the ‘Salizada’
• A dining area seating 4 to the centre of the room, plus a simple and well-equipped kitchenette to the rear
• A darling ‘altana’ roof terrace just off the main room – southwest-facing, furnished and an ideal spot for taking breakfast, or unwinding in the sunshine after a busy - or not so busy! - time around town
• A charming double bedroom to the rear, featuring a low and heavily beamed ceiling and a double bed (positioned fairly low to the floor due to the ceiling height)
• A refreshed bathroom with bathtub and shower over, set between the main room and bedroom
* Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close to each other but in separate apartments? We offer 2 other apartments in this Venetian palazzetto (little palace): Ca’ Grassi 1 (on the 2nd Floor) and Ca’ Grassi 2 (also on the 2nd Floor)
OUR COMMENT
A property to delight in all its wood and linen loveliness...! Much loved by previous guests and now refurbished to offer comfortable and peaceful accommodation in a great spot… and with an ‘altana’ rooftop terrace too!
Situated right beside ‘Casa Veronese’ (once the home of the 16th Century Italian Renaissance painter, Paolo Veronese) and within steps of the neighbourhood grocery store/delicatessen, a wine shop, a range of cafes/osterie (including those fringing the nearby Campo Santo Stefano), plus the gallery of interior designer Chiarastella Cattana - a discreetly sophisticated showroom of fine and distinctively woven textiles and furnishings – and, for scent-lovers, the Venice outlet of the famous Florentine ‘Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’ (one of the oldest pharmacies in the world and one time fragrance maker to Catherine de’ Medici).
A stone’s throw to the Accademia Bridge crossing the Grand Canal over to Dorsoduro and conveniently close the vaporetto (water bus) stops at San Samuele and Sant' Angelo for easy travel around the city, and to the ‘traghetto’ gondola ferry which, during operating times, carries passengers across the Grand Canal between Calle Del Tragheto (near Sant’ Angelo) and San Toma in the district of San Polo
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.
Beds will be arranged as either doubles or twins as shown in the photos. The possibility of turning a double bed into twins or vice versa can be found in the description and must be requested at least 7 days before arrival.33 reviews
